Academic calendar for fall semester 2017

Nomination deadline: 1 May 2017 (15 April for non-EU students)

Application deadline: 30 May 2017 (15 May for non-EU students)

Pre-registration of Courses: 8 August – 30 August 2017

Orientation week: 11 September – 15 September 2017

Classes: 18 September – 15 December 2017

Public and other holidays:

  • 28 September (Day of the Czech statehood)
  • 28 October (Foundation of the Independent Czechoslovak State)
  • 17 November (Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day)
  • 24 December (Christmas Eve)
  • 25 December (Christmas Day)
  • 1 January (Restoration Day of the Independent Czech State)

Exam period: 18 December 2017 – 22 December 2017, 27 December 2017 – 28 December 2017, 2 January 2018 – 1 February 2018

All exchange students will be given a chance to finish their exams of regular courses by the end of classes, i.e. December 15, 2017. However, not all of the grades will be recorded in the information system by then so if a student receives between 50 – 59 points as a total for a course, they will be given an opportunity to retake a final exam for this course during the exam period. Consequently, if the students do not retake the final exam, they will be given a failing grade for the course. Exchange students can take exams also during the exam period upon previous agreement with the lecturer.

Orientation week: 05 – 09 February 2018

Classes: 12 February – 11 May 2018

Public and other holidays:

  • 30 March (Good Friday)
  • 2 April (Easter Monday)
  • 1 May (Labour day)
  • 8 May (Liberation Day)
  • Exam period: 14 May – 22 June 2018*

*all exchange students will be given a chance to finish their exams of regular courses during the last week of classes, i.e. May 7-11, 2018.

However, not all the grades will be recorded in the system by then, so should the student receive 50 – 59 points as the total for a course, s/he will be given an opportunity to retake a final exam for this course during the exam period. Consequently, if the students do not retake the final exam, s/he will be given a failing grade for the course. Exchange students are more than welcome to take exams also during the exam period upon previous agreement with the lecturer.

When it comes to the administrative part of the Exchange, the real date of the last exam (oral or written) will appear on the Confirmation of study period. Students coming in the framework of Erasmus+ programme should make sure that their total number of days at VSE exceeds 90 days, which is the required minimum of the programme.
